Why A2 Milk
Why A2?
When Humpbridge Milk first started, not all of our girls had the A2 protein strain. After a lot of research it was decided to focus on creating a fully A2 herd. After the first year, the entire herd was tested to be all A2, this means all of the girls product milk with the A2 strain.
There are certain health benefits A2 milk can provide over standard milk that contains both A1 and A2 protein. These include:
May reduce the symptoms of lactose intolerance - this depends on the each individual
May reduce digestive system inflammation
May improve cognitive performance in children (Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition)
What is A2 Milk
Cows milk is a great source of protein. Milk is made up of 2 main proteins - 80% casein and 20% whey. There are 4 different types of caseins, one of these is the β-casein (Beta casein).
Beta casein has two most common which are the A1 casein and A2 casein. These are almost identical except for the way they breakdown our gut. Some people who have trouble drinking regular cow’s milk, it might be because of the A1 protein.
This is the main reason why people notice a difference to the way they feel when they drink our A2 raw milk.
MPI requires us to convey the following information:
"Raw Milk may contain harmful microorganisms that can cause serious illness. To reduce the risk of illness raw milk should be heated to at least 70 degrees C for one minute. This is critical for infants, young children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems"
